WHAT IS MEMBERSHIP?

Membership is definitely Christian in origin. It’s more than paying dues, meaningless rituals, silly rules, handshakes and having your name on some roll.

The biblical image of membership is becoming a part of a vital organ of a living body - Rom. 12: 4-5; 1 Cor. 6: 15; 1 Cor. 12:: 12-27. Any organ that is detached from the body will miss what it was created to be, it will also shrivel and die quickly.

MEMBERSHIP:

GIVES THE OPPORTUNITY FOR FASTER GROWTH;

GIVES THE ABILITY TO ASSIST OTHERS IN THEIR GROWTH;

HELPS TO DEVELOP COMMITMENT IN AND TO SOMETHING;

BRINGS ABOUT BONDING AND JOINING;

OPENS THE DOOR TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW RELATIONSHIPS;

IDENTIFIES A PERSON AS A GENUINE BELIEVER;

PROVIDES A SPIRITUAL FAMILY TO SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE THEM IN THEIR WALK WITH CHRIST;

GIVES THEM

A PLACE
TO DISCOVER AND USE THEIR GIFTS IN MINISTRY;

PLACES THEM UNDER THE PROTECTION OF GODLY LEADERS;

GIVES THEM THE ACCOUNTABILITY THEY NEED TO GROW.

WHAT IS FELLOWSHIP?

Fellowship is a Christian expression that the world has captured from church and is using very effectively.

The greatest expression of fellowship was seen in the book of Acts among the early church and Christian brethren, “The Fellowship of Christian Believers”.

Fellowship - “KOINONIA” means sharing, unity, close association, partnership, participation, a society, a communion and a fellowship.

Koinonia is a unity brought about by the Holy Spirit.

In Koinonia, the individual shares communion, an intimate bond of fellowship with the rest of the Christian society.

Koinonia cements the believers to the Lord Jesus Christ and to each other. This relationship conveys the idea of vertical as well as horizontal dimensions of fellowship.

The scripture teaches that our fellowship is with the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost.

What if ??????:

Now imagine what would happen in our day if a community of believers were like the Biblical functioning Church described in the book of acts. A church whose people were radically devoted to Jesus and each other, and totally dedicated to sharing Christ with those outside God’s family. We are convicted. A church like that would not only dramatically impact its community, but also the world around it. The church in Jerusalem accomplished this, so can we!
